SF slams Trimble for 'ignoring' Short Strand Catholics
Sinn Fein has criticised First Minister David Trimble for only visiting Protestant residents during his trip to the interface in east Belfast yesterday afternoon.
Mr Trimble travelled to the area to see evidence of this summer’s violence, but he did not visit Catholic residents in Short Strand, who have borne the brunt of almost nightly loyalist attacks.
Local Sinn Fein councillor Joe O’Donnell said: “I don’t know what sort of welcome he would have got, but at least as First Minister, I think there’s a responsibility on him to treat everyone in this community as equals and at least see the destruction that’s been done to this community for a prolonged period of time.”
