Meath plastics factory to close
Up to 88 jobs are to go at the Rennicks plastic factory at Kilbride in Co Meath.
Rennicks Plastics produce plastic mouldings. The factory at Kilbride is to close on October 30 next.
The announcement by management was condemned by SIPTU’s Dublin electronics and engineering branch secretary, Gerry Lynch.
Mr Lynch described the announcement as a devastating blow to the 88 workers and to the community - which has already suffered its fair share of unemployment in recent times.
SIPTU are calling on the Department of Enterprise, trade and employment to find a replacement industry for the area as soon as possible.
"It is our intention to ballot our members for industrial action in pursuit of improved redundancy terms over and above those initially offered by the management," said Mr Lynch.
