Number of Alzheimers sufferers expected to rise

The Alzheimers Society of Ireland has warned that the number of people suffering from the disease is expected to rise sharply in the next five years.

The group said that almost half of those over the age of 60 will develop Alzheimers Disease by 2007.

It also said that 5% of people over 65 and 20% of people over 80 at the moment suffer from some form of dementia.
