Sinn Fein has urged British Prime Minister Tony Blair to intervene in an effort to end street violence in Belfast and the suffering it causes to residents.

Party chairman Mitchel McLaughlin said the Ulster Unionist Party has shown "ambivalence" towards the violence and he urged Mr Blair to use his influence on unionist opinion to change this.
