Republicans are being blamed for an attempted bomb attack on a police station in north Belfast.

British Army technical experts made safe the pipe bomb found inside North Queen Street Station in the north of the city at around eight thirty last night.

The device was found inside a security grill surrounding a security post at the front of the station.

The station was evacuated and no one was injured during the alert. Democratic Unionist Party councillor, Nelson McCausland, condemned the attack and insisted republicans were responsible because of the location of the station.

An investigation has been launched as to how the device got into the building.
