Labour seeks review of maths and science syllabi

The Labour Party has called on Education Minister Noel Dempsey to establish a review of the Leaving Cert maths and science syllabi following an increase in the number of students failing the subjects.

The Labour Party has called on Education Minister Noel Dempsey to establish a review of the Leaving Cert maths and science syllabi following an increase in the number of students failing the subjects.

Party spokesman Eamon Gilmore said the review would have to include views from everybody involved in the matter, particularly maths and science teachers.

Minister Dempsey has already asked the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment to examine why failure rates are so high in maths exams.
