IFA mount protest on meat processor's HQ
The Irish Farmers Association has mounted a protest against cuts in cattle prices at the headquarters of AIBP/Goodman, Ireland’s largest meat processor.
The protest in Ardee, Co Louth, was arranged because farmers believe AIBP is leading a deliberate move to lower beef prices ahead of the peak cattle disposal period.
IFA president John Dillon said prices have fallen steadily in the last seven weeks, forcing down cattle farmers’ returns by around €75-a-head.
He added that AIBP pays British farmers up to €180-a-head more than it pays Irish farmers for similar cattle.
