Motorists facing delays in Dublin

Motorists coming in and out of Dublin will face major restrictions from tonight due to work on the city’s port tunnel.

The M1 on the city’s northside will be closed for up to four weekends, while construction begins on the tunnel’s entrance.

Deputy City engineer, Tim Brick, explains what diversions people should take: "We are advising people using the airport to go out through Drumcondra as usual, go to Griffith Avenue and swing left and go right up Ballymun Road and come back on to the airport road through the M50 motorway.

"For traffic coming into the airport we are recommending they come in as far as the M50 and swing left at the N52, which brings them down to the Malahide Road, and you can follow that into the city."
