Man dies after army camp blast
A 51-year-old civilian worker died today after an explosion at a British Territorial army camp in Derry, police confirmed.
Dissident republican terrorists were immediately suspected of carrying out the attack.
Police sources indicated the bomb may have been contained inside a lunch box.
The base is used mainly by ambulance and other medical units within the Territorial army.
An army spokesman denounced it as a “despicable, cowardly attack”.
He added: “This is a centre for medical units which provide TA personnel for peacekeeping and humanitarian tasks all over the world.
“These people are lifesavers and it’s outrageous that such an incident should occur in such a place.”
