Ireland has highest syphilis concentration in west

Ireland has the highest concentration of syphilis in the Western world, according to the National Disease Surveillance Centre.

The centre said 458 cases of the sexually transmitted disease have been recorded since 1999, mainly among the gay and bisexual communities.
