Moriarty examining links between Lowry and O'Brien
The Moriarty Tribunal is hearing evidence into the so-called money trail, which may link former minister Michael Lowry to businessman Dennis O’Brien.
Two new letters have come to light relating to English property deals and the tribunal is now examining if these were deliberately concealed and/or changed to hide Mr Lowry’s relationship with Mr O’Brien’s accountant, Aidan Phelan.
Earlier today, tribunal chairman Justice Michael Moriarty confirmed that a full public inquiry into the awarding of Ireland’s second mobile phone licence will begin in September.
Mr Lowry awarded this licence to Mr O’Brien’s company, ESAT, in 1995 and the tribunal’s legal team has been investigating the circumstances surrounding the deal for several months.
