Achill awaits appearance of Our Lady

Thousands of people have descended on Achill Island in Co Mayo.

They are taking part in ceremonies at the house of prayer amid a sense of anticipation that Our Lady is going to appear.

More than 50 bus loads of people have arrived from Northern Ireland and other countries.

Members of the travelling community have also lined the road into the village.

Ceremonies began at the house this morning, but houseowner Catherine Gallagher has called for a day of prayer, saying too much is being made of the possibility of Our Lady appearing once again.
