Reid asks parties to reaffirm commitment to 'non-violence'

In his statement Northern Ireland Secretary Dr John Reid said he had today written to all the parties asking them to reaffirm their ‘‘total and absolute commitment’’ to the principles of democracy and non-violence.’’

Dr Reid said: ‘‘There can be no acceptable or tolerable level of violence.’’
