The Tanaiste Mary Harney has announced 500 new jobs for Co Leitrim.

The jobs will come with the expansion of the MBNA Credit card operation at Carrick-on-Shannon.

MBNA already employs 450 people in Ireland and the new jobs are expected to start over the next five years.

Construction work has begun at the site in Carrick-on-Shannon and the building is due to be finished at the end of the year.
