Former adviser to Taoiseach elected to Senate

A former adviser to the Taoiseach on the North, Dr Martin Mansergh, has been elected to senate.

A former adviser to the Taoiseach on the North, Dr Martin Mansergh, has been elected to senate.

The Oxford graduate was involved in formulating the IRA cease-fire in 1994 and the Belfast agreement in 1998.

He contested the general election in Tipperary South, and was elected to the agriculture panel on the 24th count.

Just four seats now remain to be filled on the agriculture panel.

The counting of votes on the labour panel will then get underway.
