FAI must remember the taxpayer, says Harney

The Tanaiste is insisting that soccer matches should not be confined to Sky television. Mary Harney said that it could not be expected for the Government to bail out FAI every time they are in need of money.

She remarked that this was particularly so when taxpayers were not able to watch football games on their own television station. The Tanaiste claims that the Government now has options to guarantee that Irish home internationals remain on terrestrial television.

Later today, Bertie Ahern and the Attorney General are expected to meet with FAI bosses at government buildings in the wake of the Sky deal.
