EC takes Ireland to court for pollution breach

The European Commission is to take Ireland to the European Court of Justice for failing to comply with EU regulations on air quality.

The rules, which came into force over the past 10 years, oblige EU member states to impose limits on emissions of pollutants which contribute to global warming.
