Parades Commission upholds Drumcree ruling

The Parades Commission has upheld its ruling that this year's annual Drumcree march cannot proceed down the mainly nationalist Garvaghy Road.

The Commission said further representations were made and these were taken into account. Commission chairman, Tony Holland, said he hoped there would be tolerance of the decisions, even though they may not be universally popular.

He said that 98% of all Orange parade routes in next 10 days were unrestricted.

The Commission has received notification of nearly 900 parades across the North in the next 10 days, this represents over a quarter of all parades in a calendar year.
