Robinson signs agreement on Mexican human rights office
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mary Robinson, has signed an agreement with Mexican officials to open a UN human rights office in Mexico.
The former Irish President has praised Mexico for ratifying several international human rights treaties and for agreeing to release around 80 million secret intelligence files compiled over decades.
Mrs Robinson said she has won guarantees from Mexican President Vicente Fox that officials will investigate the death of a prominent human rights lawyer in Mexico City and continued killings of women in a town along the border with the US.
