Taoiseach calls for better services

The Taoiseach has called on the public sector to increase the quality of services for Irish people immediately.

Mr Ahern made the statement in the wake of the benchmarking report released today which is set to boost public sector pay.

He compared the increase in services to the private sector and was adamant that pay rises would have to be reflected now in reform.

He wants public sectors to also modernise their systems. He claimed that these were the usual rules in the private sector with pay increases.
