McDowell to investigate criticisms of gardai
The newly appointed Minster for Justice, Michael McDowell, says that he will ‘not tolerate anything short of the highest standards from the gardai’ as they carry out their appointed duties.
Responding to the recent criticism of the force by a retiring judge, Mr McDowell said that he took the remarks seriously and would investigate the claims.
The judge, Mr Justice Barr, said earlier in the week that the Gardai had not always honoured the law in crime fighting and Mr McDowell said that agreed with this criticism based on his own experiences.
