Republicans have been accused of deliberately escalating violence after another night of clashes in the North overnight. Two police officers were injured and a house destroyed during the latest incidents in east Belfast.

Progressive Unionist leader David Irvine maintains that republicans in the Short Strand area deliberately started the violence last night and he believes that the trouble was politically motivated.
