A wind farm project is nearing a go-ahead after a consortium was chosen to explore the possibility of starting generation from the Derry coast.

The site, Tunes Plateau, about 3 miles from shore in the mouth of the river Foyle, is capable of hosting up to 60 turbines.

It could supply electricity to about 170,000 homes, more than a quarter of all households in the North.

Construction on the wind farm could get underway within three years.
