Trimble blames Adams for attack recruit attack

The North’s First Minister, David Trimble, has claimed that Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams bears a moral responsibility for a recent attack on a Catholic police recruit by republican dissidents.

Speaking in the Northern Assembly, Mr Trimble, also the Ulster Unionist leader, said Mr Adams’ past comments could be regarded as "an incitement to attack".

Mr Adams, who was not in the chamber, had said previously that he believed republicans would "treat Roman Catholic recruits to the new police service in the same way they have treated the RUC".
