Bishop's conference to focus on sex abuse scandals
The bishop’s conference is meeting in Maynooth College for what is being viewed as a crucial gathering.
The meeting follows an unreserved apology by Bishop Eamonn Walsh to the Parishioners of Poulfour in Co Wexford, where sex-abusing cleric Sean Fortune served.
The three-day meeting will examine the fallout from the scandal surrounding former president of Maynooth College Monsignor Michael Ledwith.
The Bishops will also discuss the ongoing audit of the handling of sex abuse complaints in each of the country’s 26 dioceses.
