Transport officials call for new department
Transport officials are calling for the control of Irish ports to be transferred to the new Department of Transport.
The proposed new Department of Transport would look after the administration of roads, air and rail movement in Ireland. However, it would not incorporate the control of ports.
The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport says that it is necessary to move the control from the Department of Marine to the newly proposed Department of Transport to have a fully integrated system.
The chief executive Philip Mooney says that Irish ports are now being ignored by the new government.
98% of Irish trade goes in and out of ports.
Mr. Mooney says that there is huge need to integrate them alongside road, air and rail.
