Two people shot as violence erupts
Two people are tonight being treated for bullet wounds as a sectarian flashpoint area in east Belfast erupted in more violence.
Police said the victims are being treated in the loyalist Cluan Place area after shots were fired from the nationalist Short Strand district.
Eyewitnesses said paramedics treated the wounded at the scene before taking them to hospital.
The extent of their injuries is unknown.
The area has been the scene of bitter street violence between rival loyalist and nationalist gangs since Friday.
It also flared up as loyalists marked the Queen’s Jubilee with street parties in Newtownards Road.
Last night three people - all Protestants - were wounded when a gunman opened fire on Cluan Place from the republican side.
