Nineteen Irish beaches and two lakes have tested positive for a deadly bacteria which comes from sewage contamination, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Three tourist beaches, in Clifden, Co Galway and at Sandymount and Merrion strands, also failed EU tests for e-coli from humans or animals, while Galway’s Silver Strand tested positive for salmonella.
