Tanaiste warns FF-PD coalition not a done deal

Tanaiste, Mary Harney, is warning against any presumptions that a new coalition between Fianna Fail and the Progressive Democrats is a done deal.

The PD leader says negotiations between the two parties will begin on Monday or Tuesday.

She claims Bertie Ahern approached her first yesterday, with a view to beginning talks.

However Harney says the PD’s will only agree on a new programme for Government if it contains the party’s key priorities.

I think you wouldn’t want to presume anything, it all depends on whether we get our policies implemented, that is the crucial issue as far as I am concerned.

As we stated on many occasions throughout the campaign we are not interested in being in office, we are only interested in being in power.
