25% of votes cast so far

Around 25% of voters are believed to have cast their votes in the general election so far.

Some areas in Dublin city reported turnout of up to 40%, while in Cork the figure was up to 30%.

In Donegal, 30% to 35% had cast their votes by mid-afternoon, a similar figure was reported in Donegal and, in Mayo, around 25% had cast their votes.

The rural turnout is believed to be higher in many areas, with one booth on Achill Island reporting a turnout of 50% by lunchtime.

Around 25% of the electorate have cast their votes in Carlow and Kilkenny, while in Sligo and Leitrim, around 20% had voted by around 3pm.

One polling station in north Leitrim reported a turnout of 30% by 12.30pm.
