Irish food firm Glanbia has announced plans to withdraw from the sliced and cooked meats business in Britain with the loss of more than 700 jobs.

The workers will be let go at the company’s loss-making operations in Bradford and Milton-Keynes.

The move will not affect the Irish workforce.

Meanwhile, investigators are still examining possible causes for a fire which destroyed much of Glanbia’s processing factory in Roosky, Co Roscommon, last week.

The company said none of the 450 workers at the plant will lose their jobs.
