Gardai still in hospital

The three gardaí who were injured this morning while in pursuit of a stolen van near Kinegad are still recovering in hospital.

The vehicle collided with the patrol car at around 4am this morning.

All three Gardaí were hurt in the incident.

Superintendent Joe Shelley said: "As we speak all three gardaí are still detained in hospital.

"Two of the gardaí are detained in the Longford/ West Meath general hospital here in Mullingar. The third garda has been removed to Tullamore hospital where I believe he will undergo surgery on the injury to his leg.

"To my knowledge that garda is more seriously injured than the other two officers."
