Man undergoes emergency surgery after riot
A nationalist man is undergoing emergency surgery in Belfast following last night's rioting in the east of the city.
Serious violence erupted last night, with blast and petrol bombs thrown across the peace line between the Catholic Short Strand and the Loyalist Newtonards Road areas.
Witnesses claim the man in emergency treatment suffered two fractures to the skull after being batoned by police.
An estimated twenty shots were fired by both sides during the riots in the Thistle Court area, with both civilians and police officers also requiring medical attention.
