Labour rejects election pact with FG

Labour will not be part of any election pact with Fine Gael, according to frontbencher, Eamon Gilmore.

The Dublin Deputy says it remains Labour’s position that it would prefer to see a rainbow coalition in power after the general election.

But despite appeals from Fine Gael, Mr Gilmore says that his party will not be calling on the electorate to transfer their votes.

He said: "I think that the most that any political party can do is indicate it's preference for the combination of parties that it wishes to share Government with.

"The Labour Party has done that, we did it at the very beginning of the campaign.

"We indicated that our preference was for a complete change in government and for a coalition involving Fine Gael and the Greens. I don't think we can do anymore than that."
