Bus Eireann deny allegations of ‘backhanders’

Bus Eireann says allegations some of their employees sought backhanders for the rewarding of contracts are entirely without foundation.

John Horan, of Horan coaches in Mountmellick, Co Laois, claims two contracts were not renewed when he stopped payments.

Cyril McIntyre of Bus Eireann says this is not true.

“We have carried out an investigation into these allegations and have found them to be entirely untrue," he said.

"The reasons for which Mr Horan was dispensed with as a contractor are well known to himself. In the case of the school contract it was for failure to comply with the conditions and in the case of scheduled services work it was through attempted intimidation of Bus Eireann staff."
