A documentary due to be broadcast tonight is expected to deal a severe blow to Irish attempts to clear the name of a Co Louth man who was hanged for murder in Britain in 1962.

The woman at the centre of the case, who has remained silent for 40 years, will tell the Channel 4 documentary that she is certain James Hanratty was the man who raped her and killed her lover.
