Greens seek new consumer affairs department

The Green Party has said that it will demand the creation of a department of consumer affairs if it is part of the Government after the May 17 general election.

The party’s food safety policy advocates taking control of food production away from the Department of Agriculture in an effort to eradicate irradiation and genetic modification.

The Green Party also wants 30% of national acreage to be converted to organic farming by 2010.
