IBEC is denouncing Labour’s proposals to reverse cuts in PRSI contributions to help pay for childcare.

IBEC is denouncing Labour’s proposals to reverse cuts in PRSI contributions to help pay for childcare.

The employers group says adequate childcare can be provided by grants from the National Development plan, distributed through county childcare committees.

IBEC Director of Social Policy, Jackie Harrison, admits Ireland has a seriously under-developed standard of childcare.

“The figures show that childcare is quite significant in cost, it has increased a lot in the last number of years. We see the need to give tax credits or to look at a capitation fee for all pre-school places.“
