Victims group want compensation re-introduced
Victims of crime are looking for a pledge from political parties to reintroduce compensation for criminal injuries.
The proposal is being presented to over 300 delegates at the national conference of Victim Support in Co Donegal this weekend.
The compensation scheme was abolished in the mid-eighties because of the economic downturn at the time.
But Victim Support believes the currently healthy status of the Irish economy means there is no excuse for not re-introducing the scheme.
