FG call for investigation into missing medical files

Fine Gael is demanding that the Minister for Health investigate how the medical files of a key witness in the McBrearty Tribunal has gone missing.

The North Western Health board has confirmed that the psychiatric reports of Roisin McConnell, who claims she had a nervous breakdown after being interrogated by Gardai, have disappeared.

Fine Gael’s Jim Higgins says if the Minister cannot get to the bottom of this, the Gardai must investigate.

"If the Health board officials are not in a position to carry out this investigation, to find out exactly what happened and who is responsible, I think the Gardai should be called in as a matter of urgency because these files are absolutely crucial from the point of view of vindicating Roisin McConnell in her case, crucial for the Morris Tribunal and crucial to the civil proceedings that Roisin McConnell has undertaken at this point"
