Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams has claimed that the three Irishmen being held in Colombia have become "pawns" in US efforts to prove an international terrorist conspiracy.

Defending his decision not to attend a US Congressional hearing into alleged links between the IRA and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, Mr Adams repeated his view that the hearing could prejudice the trial of the three men.
