The body of an Irish soldier accidentally shot dead in East Timor last week will be brought back to his home town today.

Private Peader Flaherty’s body will arrive at Galway Airport at 11am today.

The peace-keeping soldier was shot dead accidentally by a colleague’s bullet in routine procedures last week.

Private Flaherty was due to return home next month.

He had been serving in East Timor since 1999.

His body will be brought to Trabane, Lettermore in Galway.
