Rates could rise to fund public services

Rates could be increased and water charges introduced in a bid to raise extra revenue for the Northern Ireland Executive, Stormont sources claimed today.

With ministers claiming the Budget allocation for the North does not go far enough, sources expect the Treasury to demand that homeowners contribute more to fund public services.
