The National Association of the Mentally Handicapped in Ireland is to make a renewed call for improved rights for people with disabilities.

The National Association of the Mentally Handicapped in Ireland is to make a renewed call for improved rights for people with disabilities.

The Association will make a strong call on the Minister for Health, Michael Martin, at its AGM in Castlebar, Co Mayo today.

General Secretary for the National Association, Deidre Carroll, says rights-based legislation is urgently required.

Ms Carroll says, "We would like to see people being given an independent appeals process and the right to make a complaint if services are not provided."
