The Irish Farmers Association is pressing for reform of the Rural Environmental Protection Scheme in an effort to address the falling numbers of farmers participating in the scheme.

There are currently 10,000 less farmers taking part in the REPS than there was three years ago and the IFA said the target of 70,000 farmers by 2006 will not be met without change.
