Ahern confirms Dail will sit next week

Speculation about the date of the upcoming general election is growing today after the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, revealed in Cork that the Dail will sit next week.

Many observers had speculated that Mr Ahern would ask the President to dissolve the Dail this week, setting the scene for an election in the second week of May, most likely May 10th.
