A member of the Democratic Unionist Party has become the second person from Northern Ireland to die of the human form of mad cow disease.

The DUP councillor from Newtownabbey, Andrew Hunter, was diagnosed with Cruetzfeldt Jakob Disease in January.

He died at his home in Rathcoole on the outskirts of north Belfast last night.

The 27-year-old politician was regarded as a bright political prospect. Party leader, Dr Ian Paisley, says he will be sadly missed within the party.
