Kilkeel: Third body recovered

All three bodies of the three Greene family members who drowned off the Co Down coast, have now been recovered.

Divers retrieved the bodies from the wreckage of the fishing vessel the Tullaghmurray Lass.

Members of three generations of the Greene family from Kilkeel, Co Down drowned when their trawler sank on St Valentine’s Day.

They were grandfather Michael, his son and grandson, both also called Michael.

The wreckage of the vessel was discovered on the sea bed last week after an extensive search involving the Irish and British navies, the coastguard and local volunteers.

It was confirmed that all three bodies were on board the boat.

A large-scale operation involving diving teams was begun yesterday to remove the three bodies and take them ashore for burial.

It is believed that the body of the grandfather, 52-year-old Michael Greene was recovered last night while his 10-year-old grandson was taken ashore this afternoon.

The body of the boy's father, 33-year-old Michael Greene, was recovered in the past hour, bringing the operation to an end.
