IHS to meet minister over compensation for haemophiliacs
The Irish Haemophilia Society is due to resume discussions with the Department of Health this morning in relation to compensation for those who contracted HIV through contaminated blood products.
The meeting was organised to discuss draft legislation which Health Minister Micheal Martin hopes to present to cabinet tomorrow. IHS spokesperson Rosemary Daly said:
"Obviously it’s a very complex issue and today we’re going back to find out exactly what the position of the department is on some of the issues and hopefully come to a consensus.
"I’m confident that progress can be made and I know that the minister is anxious to bring legislation to the cabinet tomorrow morning. We will make every effort to ensure that he can do that."
