Man pleads guilty to murder of elderly man

A Dublin man has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of an elderly bachelor during a robbery in the midlands almost two years ago.

81-year-old Paddy Logan died from a heart attack when two men burst into the rural cottage in Castlejordan where he lived with his brother Peter on June 5, 2000.

Christopher Doyle, with a last-known address at St Finian's Grove in Lucan, was charged with murder, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge.

Speaking outside the court, Peter Logan, who was badly beaten during the robbery, said he would never get over the attack.

He said he had been living happily with his brother before the incident, but now he had "lost everything".
